Tim Tells It: Father's Day Blues

Dear Tim: My father recently passed away, so Father's Day is a difficult day for me. What are some ways that I can take care of myself on that day?

--Missing Dad

Dear Missing: There are two ways to handle Father's Day under such circumstances. One way is to spend the day thinking about your dad. You can write in a journal about all the positive things you remember, or you could even write a poem or song to express your thoughts and feelings. You can honor him with flowers at his grave site, attend church services, or donate your money or time in his memory. Cook his favorite meal and share it with your loved ones. Allow yourself to think about and mourn his passing.

Another way to spend Father's Day, is to take some time for yourself. You can meditate in a peaceful place, take a day trip to a quiet spot or spend time with loved ones and do something together to make the day fun. You may not want to dwell on your father's memory or your emotions, and that's okay. Only you can decide which method is right for you. Father's Day isn't easy for everyone, and that's a good thing to remember.
