Top Ten: Ways to Celebrate Earth Day
1. Make an Earth Day resolution: Make a change and stick with it! Try buying products with less packaging, start a compost bin, or go organic. There are lots of ways to reduce your impact. Pick one and make it happen every day!
2. Start a garden: Growing your own produce is a great way to reduce your carbon footprint, while increasing your gardening skills, getting out in the fresh air and creating healthy foods.
3. Donate: Choose an environmental cause that is close to your heart and give either time or money. You can pick a specific cause or keep it more general. Just make sure you do your research and start making a difference.
4. Take the Bus: Get familiar with public transportation in your area and try to find ways to use your car less. Or bike it!
5. Plant something: A tree, flowers or even vegetables. The best things to plant are native to your area and don't need a lot of extra resources.
6. Shop Secondhand: Go thrifting! Not only will you save money on clothes, but you will reduce, reuse and recycle your way into fashion. Research sustainable brands as well.
7. Contact your Congressperson: Is there an important environmental issue in your area. Let your local politicians know that the environment is important to you. When the time comes, don't forget to vote for lawmakers who are ready to make a difference.
8. Visit a National Park: Not only can your enjoy all that nature has to offer, but your entrance fee will go toward preserving our natural wonders.
9. Join In: Find a local organization or group that is planning clean up efforts, recycling drives or other ways to get involved at the local level.
