Top Ten: Walking Dead Facts
One of our bloggers, Aaron G., is a big Walking Dead fan, so we decided to write an article detailing some fun and crazy facts about the show.
10. The set can be violent sometimes, too. While most of the violence in The Walking Dead is on screen, sometimes accidents happen. In one scene Danai Gurira's character, Michonne, hits Andrew Lincoln's Rick on the back of the head. It looked super realistic, because it actually happened. After the take, Gurira made sure her costar was ok.
9. Do you like ham? The cast of zombies chow down on pork based "organs" on set. Usually ham marinated in vinegar. When Dale died his innards were made out of chicken breast.
8. Have crossbow envy? Have you had your eye on Daryl's weapon of choice? Well you can buy for $300 at Walmart. Zombie walk on down to the store and buy one today.
7. Norman Reedus is known for being silly on set. Reedus, who plays the very serious Daryl, is actually known for playing pranks on his fellow cast members. For example, he once filled Andrew Lincoln's trailer with live chickens! He also likes to collect his costars' hair.
6. A SWAT team was called to the set. In the early days of the show, the character of Merle (played by Michael Rooker) was spotted on an Atlanta rooftop firing off blanks. Concerned citizens called the police and a SWAT team was sent! Luckily the misunderstanding was eventually cleared up.
5. Extras get schooled. To be an extra on The Walking Dead, all zombies have to go to Walker School to practice the art of the zombie walk.
4. It pays to live in Senoia, Georgia. The show films almost all of its scenes in the same small Georgia town. Due to the disruption from filming, Senoia residents are paid $400/month to put up with the production.
3. Does Carl fight like a girl? No! But his stunt double is really a 31 year old woman named Ashley.
2. Cast members have been bitten by random strangers. In one infamous case, a convention-goer bit Norman Reedus aka Daryl in the chest after she became overly excited. Tyler James Williams (Noah) was also bitten by an overzealous fan.
