Tim R

Introducing "Tim Tells It" an advice column featuring the wisdom of Tim R.

This week Tim handles a question about what is appropriate physical contact in a professional setting.

Q: Hi Tim! I work with my girlfriend, and I sometimes feel like holding her hand or kissing her while we are at work. Is that ok? What else could I do to show her I care? --Corporate Coupling

A: Dear Coupling, where I work at the N 4th Art Center, we have a "high fives and handshakes" policy. Fist bumps (aka knuckles) are good, too. Sometimes a side hug can be appropriate. Another way you can tell her that you care about her is to have a code word. Something random, like "teddy bear." Whenever you mention a teddy bear she will know that you're thinking of her. Hope that helps!
