Q. My toddler was curious about a woman's wheelchair when we were out in the community the other day. How can I make sure he is respectful?

A: First of all, everyone's wheelchair is very personal. Just like you wouldn't go up to a stranger and touch their body, don't touch someone's wheelchair. It is very important for the parents to be involved when children have these questions. Keep them at a safe distance, but don't be afraid to ask how it works. You might just get a demonstration! It's always good for children to explore their curiosity in respectful ways, so that they can learn about different experiences and there are so many different types of wheelchairs out there.
