How to Start a Blog
1. Think of a theme for your blog--our theme is VSA and the arts. Think about what interests you and how you can make your blog more specific. Tutorial blogs are popular, such as crafting projects, hair and make up and recipes. Fashion blogs are a way to share your favorite designers, popular styles and thrifty finds. Food and Health blogs are ways to help others find recipes, follow a diet plan or learn new exercise techniques. Most of all, it is important to find a balance between your specific topic and how much content you can generate.
2. Once you have a topic for your blog, you need a platform. Instead of creating a website from scratch, there are many options for ready made blogging sites. We use wix.com. Other options include Blogger and WordPress. These sites host your blog page and provide a template that you can customize to your very own blog.
3. Content! You will need to have ideas for articles, along with pictures and videos to post. Set a schedule for yourself, whether you are posting once a day, once a week or once a month and have a running list of story ideas to draw from. You can have recurring blog posts, such as a clip of the week or a video diary that you post on a schedule, and then post other one-off articles whenever the mood strikes.
4. Once you have your blog up and running with posted content, it's a good idea to market your blog on different social media platforms. We share selected content on VSA's Facebook Page. Instagram and Pinterest are other options. You also link to other accounts, such as Flickr and have e-mails sent directly to your inbox.
