State Fair Favorites
The New Mexico State Fair is very popular with the apprentice artists at VSA, so we decided to write an article with tips on what to do at the State Fair. Here are our favorites:
The Food: Pizza, turkey legs, roasted corn on the cob, fry bread, frito pie, corn dogs (and other foods on a stick), and funnel cakes are some of the best options, but the possibilities are endless!
Concerts: Some of our past favorites include Carrie Underwood and George Strait, and this year features Big and Rich. Country music is very popular at the State Fair!
Art and Culture: VSA has a long tradition of entering artworks into competitions at the State Fair. Quilts, ceramics and canvas paintings have been entered by apprentice artists and even won prizes, including first place!
Rodeos: Cowboys! Cowgirls! Horses and Bulls! Rodeo Clowns! Barrel Racing! There's something for everyone to enjoy.
Attractions: Some of the highlights of the state fair are gardening displays and demonstrations, such as the largest pumpkin in the state. Farming and crafting are also featured.
Animals: Horses, cows, chickens, pigs, goats and other farm animals can be found in the barn area. Even alpacas! One student even saw a pig race. But our favorite animal exhibit is the Petting Zoo. Small and baby animals are available to touch and play with. Awww!
Entertainment: Apprentice Artists have fun going on rides, like the ferris wheel, carousel, the bungie jump and the roller coaster. There are games, too. The basketball toss, dart throwing, water pistols and target shooting are some favorites.
The State Fair starts September 7th and runs through the 17th. Check out their website for more info.
