Interview with Live Yes Studios
One of our teachers here at VSA, Shereen, used to work at a dayhab called Live Yes Studios in Lincoln, Nebraska. We had the opportunity to Skype with them today! We had a few questions for our new friends about what their program is like.
Unlike our program, which is quite large, but Live Yes serves only about 25 people a day. However, there are many similarities between our two programs. They create art through classes in sewing, painting, drawing, ceramics and music. Some favorite projects include pillows, animal art and electronic music. In addition, they also go on many outings and field trips, as well as volunteer opportunities in the community. They have a community garden plot that they visit twice a week and they clean up a trail they adopted on a weekly basis. They also often visit galleries, museums and parks.
Like VSA, Live Yes has a gallery space where students sell their art. They have group shows every four months, and in between they have monthly solo shows. Because they don't have a theater space, they do not currently have a performing arts program, though they have in the past. When they do put on a production, every class has to work together to make it happen. They do enjoy creating music and having dance parties just like us!
