Beloved Teacher Leaving VSA
One of VSA's favorite teachers, Brenden, is leaving. We interviewed him so that we would always have a blog post to remember him by. Brenden, a Santa Fe native, was the resident music teacher at VSA, teaching such classes as Bells and Boomwhackers, Guitar, Jazz Band and Garage Band among many others. When asked what his favorite class was, Brenden said it would have to be either Songwriting or Garage Band. Among his favorite Showcase performances were "Bryn Lavender" by the Lady Bots and "Stinky Diapers" by Sarah Wilson. Brenden often taught field trip classes, such as Supernatural Outings and Scallywags and Scoundrels Outings. He says his favorite field trip was when the van exploded!
Brenden comes from a family of teachers, In fact, his father, Tom, teaches visual art at VSA. Sometimes Tom and Brenden even taught music classes together, like the Shake Your Booty class. Brenden's favorite color is turquoise, and his favorite food is "anything my wife makes." When asked what his favorite music group is, Brenden said there too many to name.
Brenden's last day is Friday, January 27th. He is leaving to pursue a career as a Behavior Technician working with kids who have autism in Santa Fe. He is also is moving into a new home with his wife, which he described as a "yome" (yurt + dome). When asked about his experience at VSA, Brenden said, "I loved it here." And we loved Brenden!
